Teresa Brooks Inspired Coil Pottery

Teresa Brooks is a ceramic artist who is inspired by nature and creates coil pots that look like they could have been created with things found on the forest floor or while walking along the beach. Her forms are beautiful and natural and stand on their own without any elaborate glazing. The purity of the natural white porcelain and her sculptural surfaces shine through.

For our first project, Ceramics 2 students created pieces that were inspired by Teresa Brooks. Due to the nature of this challenging year, the firing and glazing of our ceramic pieces takes a lot longer than usual and many of the pieces that students have made are still in their unfired state. Because of this, for these pieces, students were encouraged to make work that incorporated surface texture that shines on its own without glazing. The results were exciting and I can not wait to get them into the kiln!

Teresa Brooks es una artista de cerámica que se inspira en la naturaleza y crea macetas en espiral que parecen haber sido creadas con cosas que se encuentran en el suelo del bosque o mientras caminan por la playa. Sus formas son hermosas y naturales y se sostienen por sí solas sin ningún tipo de vidriado elaborado. La pureza de la porcelana blanca natural y sus superficies escultóricas brillan.

Para nuestro primer proyecto, los estudiantes de Ceramics 2 crearon piezas inspiradas en Teresa Brooks. Debido a la naturaleza de este año desafiante, la cocción y el glaseado de nuestras piezas de cerámica toma mucho más tiempo de lo habitual y muchas de las piezas que los estudiantes han hecho aún están en su estado sin cocer. Debido a esto, para estas piezas, se animó a los estudiantes a realizar trabajos que incorporen una textura de superficie que brille por sí sola sin vidriado. ¡Los resultados fueron emocionantes y no puedo esperar para meterlos en el horno!
